Bomb blasts in Somalia, 19 people killed, 23 injured


Mogadishu, July 28 (SO News/Agency) At least 19 people were killed and 23 injured in bomb blasts in two cities of southern Somalia on Wednesday. In the first incident, a suicide bomber blew himself up in Marka town of Lower Shabelle region, killing 13 people and injuring five, officials said.

Confirming the incident, a regional official said that six people were killed and 18 others injured in two attacks in Afgoye town of Lower Shabelle region. A suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest blew himself up outside an administrative office in Marka city, killing District Commissioner Abdullah Ali Ufo and 12 others, Lower Shabelle Region Governor Ibrahim Aden Ali Naja said.

“Fufu was killed along with 12 other people in the blast. Mr. Fufu was talking outside his office when the incident occurred,” he told reporters. In another attack, six people were killed in two roadside blasts in a local market in Afgoye town. Abdul Qadir Adil, a former spokesman of the Afgoi district administration, said that two remote-controlled mines exploded in a crowded market.

“At least six people, mostly civilians, were killed and 18 others injured in two attacks using remote-controlled explosive devices at a cattle market in Afgoye,” he told the Somali News Agency. He said that many people come to the market in large numbers for shopping on Wednesdays.
