Birmingham, August 8 (SO News/Agency) India’s excellent performance in the Commonwealth Games continues. After weightlifting, wrestling, now Indian Badminton stars have done wonders. After PV Sindhu, badminton star Lakshya Sen has won the gold medal by defeating Tejay Young of Malaysia in the Commonwealth Games 2022 badminton singles final.
Lakshya Sen fought back after losing the first game to defeat Malaysia’s Tejay Young 21-19, 9-21, 16-21. This is India’s 22nd gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Apart from this, India won its second gold medal in Badminton today. Notably, India has so far collected 22 gold, 15 silver and 23 bronze medals in Commonwealth Games 2022.
Earlier today, India’s PV Sindhu won her maiden Commonwealth Games badminton singles gold by defeating Canada’s Michelle Lee in the final in straight games. Sindhu played aggressively, controlled the games well and did not give her opponent many chances. They won 15-21, 13-21 in the final on show court at NEC. “I was waiting for this gold medal for a long time, so I am very happy,” Sindhu said after the win.
This is Sindhu’s second medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games after winning the Naqrai medal in the mixed team event. He won gold and silver in the mixed team at Gold Coast. The opening game was fiercely contested with the score level at 4-4. Using her height and smashes, Sindhu led 8-14 and eventually won the opening game 15-21. The second game followed the same pattern, with Sindhu taking an early lead of 6-11 and Michelle Li starting to play a bit more aggressively, but Sindhu pressed her 13-19. The Indian shuttler then bagged the championship point and the gold medal.
