Birmingham, August 8 (SO News/Agency) Indian athletes are continuing to perform brilliantly in the Commonwealth Games 2022 being played in Birmingham, UK. On the 10th day of the Games (Sunday) on August 7, India won 15 medals. It includes 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals. Along with this, Indian players in table tennis and badminton have ensured to win medals by reaching the finals.
Indian women’s hockey team won the bronze medal match against New Zealand. The women’s hockey team has won a medal at the Commonwealth Games after 16 years. Meanwhile, Deepika Pallikal and Saurav Ghoshal won bronze for India in squash. In cricket too, the Indian women’s team won a silver medal. In Badminton, Kidambi Srikanth won bronze in men’s singles while Gayatri and Trisha Jolly won bronze in women’s doubles.
Nikhat Zarin, Neetu and Amit Pinghal won gold for India in boxing, while Alduz Paul won gold in triple jump. Nikhat Zarin defeated Lorley of Northern Ireland 5-0 in a one-sided contest in the 48-50kg weight category. Neetu also defeated English boxer Demi Z Rizatan 5-0 unilaterally in the 45-48 kg weight category.
While Amit Pangal won the gold medal in the 48-51 kg category by defeating the Englishman Kieran MacDonald 5-0. In the men’s triple jump event, Indian athlete Alduz Paul won gold with a jump of 17.03 meters. He is the first Indian to bag triple jump gold in Commonwealth Games history.
India bagged a total of 15 medals on the 10th day of the Games, however, India is still fifth in the medal tally. India has won a total of 55 medals so far, including 18 gold, 15 silver and 22 bronze. Australia leads with 66 gold, 55 silver and 53 bronze medals. On the other hand, hosts England are second with 55 gold medals and Canada is third with 22 gold medals. New Zealand is on the fourth position with 19 gold medals, one place above India.
