Jaipur, November 18 (SO News/Agency) India defeated New Zealand by five wickets in the first T20 match to take a one-nil lead in the three-match series.
In the match played in Jaipur on Wednesday, India achieved the target of 165 runs given by New Zealand on the fourth ball of the last over.
Suryakumar Yadav top scored with 62, bowled by Trent Boult.
After playing an innings of 48 runs, captain Rohit Sharma was caught out by Rondra off the ball of Trent Boult.
On behalf of the Kiwi team, Trent Boult took two wickets while Tim Southee, Mitchell Settner and Daryl Mitchell got one wicket each.
Earlier, captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first.
New Zealand batting first scored 164 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Opener Martin Guptill played a brilliant innings of 70 runs, he was caught out by Deepak Chahar. Mark Chapman scored 63 runs and was bowled by Ashwin.
For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashwin took two wickets each while Deepak Chahar and Mohammad Siraj took one wicket each.
India’s Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged the man of the match.
The second T20 match of the series between the two teams will be played in Ranchi on November 19, while the third and final T20 match will be played in Kolkata on November 21.
It should be noted that Kiwi team captain Kane Williamson is not a part of the T20 series against India, fast bowler Tim Southee is doing the captaincy duties in his place.
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has been given the captaincy of the Indian T20 team in place of Virat Kohli and he captained for the first time in the match against New Zealand.
