Kolkata, November 22 (SO News/Agency) Captain Rohit Sharma (56), left-arm spinner Akshar Patel (3 wickets for 9 runs) and all-rounder Harshal Patel (two wickets for 18 and 26 runs) Thanks to this, India defeated New Zealand by 73 runs in the third and final T20I on Sunday to sweep the three-match series 3-0.
The Indian team got off to a storming start and scored a strong score of 184 for 7 in 20 overs thanks to their excellent strike rate in the last over and dismissed New Zealand for 111 runs in 17.2 overs. By defeating New Zealand, India swept the series and avenged the World Cup group match defeat by the visitors.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. India rested Lokesh Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin and brought in Ishan Kishan and Yuzvendra Chahal. Rohit Orakshan gave India a storming start and scored 69 runs in the first six overs. Meanwhile, both Rohit and Kishan hit great shots. Rohit hit the third six of his innings of 56 runs to complete his 150 sixes in T20Is.
India’s first blow came in the seventh over from left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner when he dismissed the cushion. Kishan hit seven fours in 29 runs off 21 balls. Santner also showed Surya Kumar Yadav the way to the pavilion on the last ball of this over. Suriya was dismissed cheaply for the second match in a row. Rishabh Pant scored four runs in six balls and got out on the last ball of Senator’s second and ninth over. Pant’s wicket fell on the score of 83.
Captain Rohit completed his half-century by hitting a four, but then he gave a return catch to leg-spinner Ash Sodhi. Rohit went forward and hit a powerful shot but the ball went to Sodhi’s right hand and stuck. Rohit was dismissed after scoring his 26th half-century. He hit five fours and three sixes in 56 runs off 31 balls. Rohit’s wicket fell on the score of 103.
Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer scored 36 runs for the fifth wicket but after that both the batsmen were dismissed within one run. Venkatesh was caught by Trent Boult by Chapman while Shreyas was dismissed by Adam Milne. Venkatesh scored 20 runs in 15 balls with a four and a six while Shreyas scored 25 runs in 20 balls with two fours. Harshal Patel scored 18 runs in 11 balls with the help of two fours and a six. Akshar Patel remained not out by scoring two runs while Deepak Chahar scored 21 runs off eight balls with the help of two fours and a six. India’s innings ended on a strong score of 184 runs. Santner, who took over the captaincy from New Zealand, was the most successful bowler with three wickets for 27 runs.
The New Zealand team suffered the fourth biggest defeat in terms of their runs by collapsing on 111 runs. India achieved their sixth clean sweep and equaled Pakistan for the highest number of clean sweeps. It is India’s second consecutive series win against the visiting team. India won the 2020 tour of New Zealand 5-0.
Left arm spinner Akshar Patel took three wickets in the first five overs and broke the back of New Zealand’s batting in such a way that they could not handle it till the end. Only Martin Guptill maintained his form and scored 51 runs in 36 balls with the help of four fours and four sixes, but after he was dismissed for 69 runs, New Zealand’s last hope was also extinguished. Guptill was caught out by leg-spinner Yuzvinder Chahal at the hands of Surya Kumar Yadav. Tim Seifert was run out after scoring 17 runs off 18 balls.
Loki Ferguson scored fourteen runs off eight balls with the help of two sixes. Apart from Akshar Patel’s three wickets for India, Harshal Patel took two wickets for 26 runs while Deepak Chahar, Chahal and Venkatesh Iyer took one wicket each. Akshar Patel got the player of the match award for his bowling while captain Rohit Sharma got the player of the series award.
