Madhya Pradesh won their first Ranji Trophy after 71 years

Bengaluru, June 26 (SO News/Agency) Madhya Pradesh was established in the 1950-51 session in the Ranji Trophy, which started in 1934 during the British rule, and the MP announced the finals of the 2021-22 session on Sunday.

Madhya Pradesh created history by chasing down the target of 108 runs thanks to Himanshu Mantri (37) and Shubham Sharma (30) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Kanse Patidar, who played for Royal Challengers in the IPL, also scored a valuable 30 runs amidst chants of ‘RCB’. It was Patidar who scored the last runs to give Madhya Pradesh its maiden Ranji title.

Mumbai started the fifth day at 113/2 and made quick runs. After the dismissal of Armaan Jaffer (37 off 40 balls), Sweed Parker and Sarfraz Khan looked in rhythm at the crease, but Kumar Kartikeya opened the door for Madhya Pradesh by dismissing Parker. Parker scored 51 runs in 58 balls with the help of three fours and a six.

Mumbai’s Shams Malani (17) and Tushar Deshpande (07) were also run out, making things easier for Madhya Pradesh. After losing six wickets for 232 runs, Mumbai’s last hope was Sarfaraz, but he too could score only 45 runs with the help of two fours and a six. Mumbai lost their last seven wickets within 77 runs and the team was reduced to 269 runs.

After leading by 162 runs in the first innings, MP had a target of 108 runs, which they achieved at the loss of four wickets. Opener Yash Dubey returned to the pavilion after scoring just one run and at one point it looked like the match might be interesting but Himanshu and Shubham showed composure under the pressure and put on a 52-run partnership. MP were halfway there by the time Himanshu was dismissed for 54 runs.

Partha Sawhney, who came in at number four, managed just five runs but Shubham did not let the pressure on the team and put on a 45-run partnership with Patidar to ensure his side’s maiden Ranji Trophy. Shubham, who scored a century in the first innings, scored 30 runs in the second innings with the help of a four and a six. At the score of 101 runs, Shubham was dismissed trying to hit a big shot, after which Patidar took the team to the target.
