Sydney, November 9 (SO News/Agency) Pakistan captain Babar Azam (53 runs) and Mohammad Rizwan (57 runs) with the help of magnificent half-centuries won the ICC on Wednesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Australia. In the first semi-final of T-20 World Cup 2022, Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 7 wickets. In response to New Zealand’s 152 runs, the Pakistani team successfully achieved the target by scoring 153 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 19.1 overs. For the New Zealand team, Trent Boult took 2 wickets and Mitchell Santner took one wicket.

Today, when the New Zealand team seemed to falter while batting first, it seemed as if the loss of the toss went in Pakistan’s favour. In the second innings, the ball was hitting the bat very well. Rizwan’s innings was a rage and Babar’s return to form is also good news for Pakistan. New Zealand did not perform well in the fielding and bowling department today. The fast bowler bowled at the wrong length continuously and the fielders missed almost three catch chances.

Chasing the target, the Pakistani team got off to a great start. Their opening batsman Muhammad Rizwan and captain Babar Azam gave a quick start and scored 65 runs without losing a wicket in the power play. Both the batsmen continued this form of batting and shared the first century partnership in the World Cup.

Babar Azam then brought up his half-century in 38 balls, but was dismissed for 53 off Boult in 12.2 overs in an attempt to chase down the target at speed. Meanwhile, at the other end, Rizwan played some good shots which also saw him score a 36-ball half-century, taking Pakistan closer to the final. But Rizwan also became a victim of the bolt by scoring 57 runs in 43 balls with the help of 5 fours, due to which Pakistan lost their second wicket for 136 runs in 17 overs. Mohammad Haris then played some good shots, but was dismissed for 30 when 2 runs were needed for victory.

Pakistan will now face the winning team in the second semi-final. The second semi-final will be played between India and England on November 10.
