The European Union tightened the visa regime for Russian citizens

Brussels, September 1 (SO News/Agency) The European Union’s foreign ministers have agreed to suspend the visa agreement with Russia, which has made it difficult for Russian citizens to enter the EU member states. The BBC reported in its report that Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, the five EU countries bordering Russia, said in a joint statement that they would “address public security issues”. A temporary ban can be imposed.

Notably, Ukraine and some member states have called for a complete ban, but other countries like France and Germany have opposed it. Several Eastern European Union countries bordering Russia may impose sanctions against Russia.

According to a BBC report, more than a million Russian citizens have traveled to the European Union since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February. The BBC reported that France and Germany warned in a joint statement that “far-reaching sanctions” could victimize Russia and alienate future generations of Russian citizens. Five EU countries, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, said in a joint statement that they could impose a temporary ban “to address public security issues”.
