In the summary sent by the GHQ for the appointment of the Army Chief, the name of former ISI chief Lt. Gen. Asim Munir is also included.

According to details, Lt. Gen. Asim Munir passed out from the training school in Mangla and got commissioned in the Frontier Force Regiment in the army. He assumed command of the army in the Force Command Northern Areas as a Brigadier under the present Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Lt Gen Asim Munir was appointed DG Military Intelligence in 2017. And in October of the following year, he was made the head of Pakistan’s secret agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), but he held this position for a short time.

After heading the ISI, Lt. Gen. Asim Munir was posted as Corps Commander Gujranwala and two years later he was posted as Quartermaster General at GHQ and is still serving in the same post.

Lt Gen Asim Munir also received an honorary sword from Pakistan Military Academy Kakul. If Lt Gen Asim Munir is appointed as the Pakistan Army Chief, he will be the first Army Chief who is not a Pakistan Military Academy Long Course but an OTS Commissioned Officer.

Earlier, in a tweet by ISPR, it was said that the General Headquarters (GHQ) had sent the summary to the Ministry of Defense for the appointment of the Army Chief. The summary includes the names of 6 senior lieutenant generals which have been sent to the Ministry of Defence.

Later, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif also confirmed that the summary for the appointment of the Army Chief has been received by the Prime Minister’s Office and the rest of the steps will be completed soon.

In the summary received by the Prime Minister House, the first name is that of Lt. Gen. Asim Munir, the second name is Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad, the third name is Lt. Gen. Azhar Abbas, the fourth is Lt. Gen. Nauman Mehmood, the fifth is Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed and the sixth is Lt. Gen. Muhammad. It belongs to Aamir.
